Rhinoplasty
What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that reshapes the nose, improves breathing function, and resolves nasal trauma. Sometimes called a "nose job," rhinoplasty is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures.
Are You a Candidate for Rhinoplasty?
Dr. Sandel performs rhinoplasty for patients who have cosmetic and/or medical concerns. These patients include healthy young adults with an undesirably shaped nose as well as patients who have suffered trauma or have difficultly breathing. Dr. Sandel also performs revision rhinoplasty for patients who are unhappy with the results of their pervious surgery.
Why Choose Dr. Henry Sandel?
Annapolis Cosmetic Surgeon, Dr. Henry Sandel, is a double board-certified in Advanced Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as well as Otolaryngology, head and neck surgery. His background in ear, nose and throat surgery makes him exceptionally well qualified to perform rhinoplasty to improve both function and aesthetics. Meet Dr. Sandel
Surgical Techniques
Dr. Sandel's goal with rhinoplasty is to create a natural look, that draws attention to the eyes and overall face, rather than the nose. Depending on your condition and cosmetic goals, there are different techniques Dr. Sandel may use to perform surgery.
A majority of patients undergo what is sometimes called open rhinoplasty. This technique takes an external approach, giving Dr. Sandel greater access to the tip of the nose for superior results. Endonasal rhinoplasty or closed rhinoplasty is well suited for minor changes to the tip of the nose or cartilage. In this technique, the incisions are made entirely on the inside of the nose.
What To Expect From Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is typically performed as an outpatient procedure under general (light) anesthesia, monitored by a board certified anesthesiologist. An incision will be made either inside the nose or between the nostrils, to expose the bone and cartilage support system. Next, Dr. Sandel will reshape the nose by removing, adding to, or rearranging the structure.
Once the reshaping is complete, Dr. Sandel will reshape the tissues over the new framework and close the incisions. A splint may be used to support the newly shaped nose.
Recovery Time
The splint is typically worn for about one week to help the nose retain its new shape. Minor swelling and bruising is normal in the weeks immediately following the surgery. Most patients notice a gradual decrease in swelling, with full healing in about one to three months. In general, patients return to work after one week when the splint has been removed, though it is possible to return to work sooner.
