Aesthetic Eyelid Surgery
Are You a Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?
The ideal candidate for eyelid surgery has concerns about the appearance of either their upper or lower eyelids and wants to achieve a rejuvenated or refreshed look. Surgery is usually not recommended for younger patients who can delay blepharoplasty through non-surgical procedures.
Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery) Can:
- Improve the appearance of droopy eyelids
- Relive heavy eyelids or eyelids that feel tired
- Reduce puffiness or swelling around the eyes
- Allow the eyes to appear brighter and more refreshed

What To Expect From Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty does not change the shape of the eyes or give a tight, pulled or surprised look. It is simply designed to make you look more rejuvenated and refreshed.
Upper Eyelid Surgery
Patients who have droopy or heavy eyelids may elect to have upper eyelid surgery. During this procedure, a small incision will be made in the crease of the upper eyelid. The excess skin and puffiness will be removed effectively improving the weight of your eyelids. Fine sutures will be placed to minimize the scar.
Lower Eyelid Surgery
Lower eyelid surgery can improve a puffy appearance or "bags" under the eyes. During the procedure, the incision is made along the lash line or in the smile crease to minimize the visibility of scars. As in upper eyelid surgery, excess fat, muscle and skin are removed and then the incision is closed with fine suture. Fat in the lower eyelids can be moved to the upper cheek, creating more fullness to give a natural, full appearance of the eyelid in relation to the upper cheek.
Recovery time from eyelid surgery is generally 7 days at which point the sutures are removed. Patients usually experience a pink appearance at the stitch line along with some minimal swelling and/or bruising which generally subside within a few weeks. Most patients are quickly back to social activities after 7 days with a little makeup to hide the residual yellow bruise which can last up to 2 weeks.

Non Surgical Eyelid Rejuvenation
There are a number of non-surgical procedures that can be performed for patients looking to refresh the appearance of droopy eyelids, puffy eyelids or tired eyelids. These techniques are not permanent but are generally suitable for younger patients who may not be ready for eyelid surgery or for patients who wish to delay their eyelid surgery.
Dermal fillers are one of the most conservative approaches to nonsurgical eyelid procedures. Hydraulic acid (Juvederm or Restylane) is injected just under the surface of the skin around the eye and is a good option for patients who are early in the aging process. BOTOX is applied to the outer corners of the eye to relax the muscle and give the eye a more open appearance. Another option is chemical or laser resurfacing. These procedures can ease the effects of sun damage and smooth fine lines and wrinkles.
