BOTOX®Cosmetic
Q. How does BOTOX®Cosmetic Work?
A. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum. The protein is taken up by the motor end plate (where a nerve contacts a muscle). It then inhibits the release of a neurotransmitter into the nerve terminal. This prevents the nerve signal from reaching the muscle therefore preventing muscle contraction.
Q. Is BOTOX® Safe?
A. BOTOX® has been used around the world in millions of people for both cosmetic purposes as well as medical treatments. There have been no reports of side effects or complications during routine use. It has been approved by the FDA since 2002.
